Spring Manifesto 2026
Creating a seasonal manifesto forms a nourishing and intentional part of my seasonal rhythm. I consciously and intentionally make space to think and reflect, connect with the season ahead and craft a few statements which form my intentions and hopes for the season ahead. Writing a manifesto has been something I have done since 2016, I’ve shared many of them on my personal blog lucyellenhill.com each season, however sometimes have held them just for me in my journals. Making space for a rhythm and ritual to help me connect to the season has, over time, helped me cultivate and live a more intentional life.
Creating a manifesto at the spring equinox
The Spring Equinox fell on 20th March this year and marks the moment in the Northern Hemisphere when we experience equal daylight and darkness. The hopeful feeling of the light retunrning and the lengthening days helps my energy and creates a sense of momentum. I appreciate the unfurling of the spring season with a symphony of rhythmic beats in the garden, as bulbs emerge, flower, and bloom. There are all types of greens which fill our outside spaces as plants grow new foliage and as they do the leaves unfurl and mature.
At the astronomical marker points of the seasons I like to create a rhythm of writing, connecting to myself and my life. Using these marker points creates a more naturally connected rhythm, even though I still enjoy reflecting on the weeks and the months I like to be able to connect to the bigger picture of the earth’s position in relation to the sun and the impact it has on life. Creating a manifesto is a practice which feels soulful, nourishing, connects to a wholesome part of me and also allows me to connect to my heart wisdom as well as my head.
I appreciate the opportunity I make space to reflect, connect to the time ahead and gently make a plan. Each season I create a manifesto, it’s a set of phrases full of meaning to help me intentionally focus on what I want to lean into, appreciate and feel each season. The manifestos I write sometimes hold an obvious meaning when read, and sometimes these phrases hold extra layers of meaning for me personally. I choose to connect my manifestos with my word of the year to weave in additional wisdom, intent and direction. It might not be obvious as you read the intentions however for me they connect to that word in a way which feels personal.
Having a seasonal manifesto helps me decide on a way I want to be in the world and how I want to approach the season ahead. For me creating a manifesto is about connecting with the energy of the season and writing intentions to help frame that energy. Spring connects me to the gathering pace of natural growth, of appreciating the process of unfurling, of seeing the bulbs planted in late autumn come to life and bloom. I absorb the energy of the increasing light and feel called to soak up the sunshine, be outside in our garden and appreciate the buzzing of nature’s pollinators getting to work.
What is a seasonal manifesto?
My view of a seasonal manifesto is something I created, it creates and shares a big picture view of the season and a set of themes for the season ahead. Rather than create a list with lots of detail I create statements which layer metaphorical meaning, using the themes I connect to in nature as a lens to help support what life may hold during the months ahead. After 10 years of creating manifestos I love how much these still play a role in helping me live more consciously and intentionally.
My manifestos serve the moment they are written in and for the season ahead. When I look back over them I can remember where I was at in my life at the time. I feel a deep sense of appreciation that I made space to connect with my hopes for the time ahead and seeing how I wanted to support myself and take action, make progress, grow and live life in that moment.
Connecting to metaphors within the spring season
Spring is a season I’ve adored for most of my life. My birthday is in April and the bluebells, bulbs bursting into bloom, and the greening of our outside spaces brings me so much joy and connection to my childhood memories. My business Frondescence, is purposefully named to connect with spring, Frondescence means to gain new foliage and unfurl new leaves. Spring has a deep place in my heart and I have a deep passion for personal growth.
During spring I love thinking about the metaphors of the bulbs planted in the autumn growing and finally blooming after hibernating and once being out of sight and now in bloom. There is a reminder in spring that the blossom on trees can be fleeting and that plants all bloom at different moments in the season, depending on the environment they are in. The quickening of the spring season for me is energising and helps me to gently take actions and experience progress however small. Blue skies, warm temperatures and increasing activity in nature feels like the world is awakening and using it’s resources to grow, shift and change.
My Spring Manifesto
This year my spring manifesto feels like an immersion into the growing and tending of life and work. I notice that my manifesto is also about allowing the season to grow and to flow in the way it will. My manifesto connects intentionally with my word of the year Glow. I purposefully connect my manifesto with my word of the year to create a sense of grounded intentions and hopes, and finding new ways to connect with my word, allowing it to support each season.
I feel the energy of my manifesto, I notice the gently challenging things which fit within the layers of meaning in my manifesto, and I see the hope I hold in it too. Here’s my spring manifesto for 2026:
Unfurl new foliage within my work
Let the light in
Capture the light and warmth to help grow
Intentionally reinvigorate my daily rhythms
Keep tending, watering and supporting newly planted seeds
Gather the resources I need for planning and planting perennials
